Persons who suffer from frequent acne outbreaks often end up with a double whammy when they find their skin cannot tolerate the ingredients in strong acne creams. Typically prescribed by dermatologists for persons with severe acne, most prescription strength acne creams have more of the concentration of benzoyl peroxide than the five or 10 percent available in over the counter products. Acne develops due to a build up of dead skin cells mixed with the body’s natural moisturizer, which block the pours through which the sebum reaches the outer skin. Make Up Usually Just Hides The Problem

For many people, using make up over existing zits to cover them from view, may also be causing more problems than they are curing. There is however, acne creams containing salicylic acid, which is used for spot treatments and once applied to the blemish, can be covered with make up, hidden from public view while it does its job of drying out the zit and clearing the pimple.

That is not to say the product stays on until the zits go away. Rather, the skin still needs to be cleansed at least twice a day and the acne creams reapplied.
